About the Art
Hörl designed his gnomes See Nothing,”, Hear Nothing,” Say Nothing” in the three different poses and (respectively covering their eyes, ears, and mouth). Ottmar Hörl presented his Bearers of Secrets Gnomes at the Art Fair art Karlsruhe in 2006. Those gnomes refer to the popular pictorial maxim the Three wise monkeys”. The monkey proverb also implies other meanings such as being of good mind, speech and action. In the Western World, the phrase is often used to call those who deal with impropriety by turning a blind eye. At that time, the parade of 1,200 gnomes classified in horizontal rows and vertical columns caused intense reactions. To Hörl, the comparative political idea that art may be interpreted individually gives birth to an artistic creativity which seeks to stimulate discussion and doesn’t try to hide in the protected atmosphere of a museum.
