About Johannes Vermeer Coasters – Parastone – Set of 4 – Masterpieces
Part of the Parastone’s exclusive Museum gift collection this set of 4 glass Johannes Vermeer Coasters features 4 masterworks by one of the leading artists of the Dutch Golden Age. This set of coasters comes with a metal storage rack with rubber feet to protect your table and prevent them from slipping. In the tradition of Dutch painting, although Johannes Vermeer painted landscapes he made his reputation as a painter of interior scenes, another popular subject among middle-class patrons. These paintings offer the viewer glimpses into the private lives of prosperous, responsible and cultured citizens of the United Provinces. Despite his fame as a painter today, Vermeer derived much of his income from his work as an innkeeper and art dealer in Delft, and he completed no more than 35 paintings that can definitively be attributed to him. Vermeer began his career as a painter of biblical and historical themes but soon abandoned those traditional subjects in favor of domestic genre scenes. Unlike other Flemish artists during the 15th century, Vermeer strayed away from including sacred figures in genre scene settings, and instead portrayed opulent interiors of Dutch middle-class figures engaging in household tasks or at leisure. Women are the primary occupants of Vermeer’s homes, and his paintings are highly idealized depictions of the social values of Dutch burghers.
