Andy Warhol is without a doubt the first name that comes to mind when thinking about the Pop Art Culture. His iconic world illustrated celebrity culture, artistic expression and advertisement. He utilized a multitude of medias including hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film and music. He had a studio called The Factory, where intellectuals, drag queens, playwrights, Bohemian street people, Hollywood celebrities and wealthy patrons would collaborate.
The most well known series of thirty-two Campbell Soup Cans are known as the “Ferus Type”, name acquired from the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles where they were originally featured. Warhol’s original red and white campbell soup cans produced in 1962 featured every product supplied by the Campbell Soup Company and a later series was created around 1965 featuring nineteen different colored soup cans. Andy Warhol’s groundbreaking works and artistic contributions to the history of art, both challenged and transformed our perception and appreciation of art forever.
