When he crafted this armchair Le Corbusier highlighted one feature: the clear distinction between the load-bearing frame and supported elements. In concurrence with its programmatic name »Grand Confort«, the armchair's tubular steel frame and the five voluminous, orthogonal leather cushions evoke both comfort and formal reduction. He was a visionary architect, furniture designer and believed that form should follow function. This focus on utilitarian design became his obsession. He was also the father of modern urban residence and habitat concepts.
This Vitra collectible miniature design chair is constructed to the exact specifications of the original, right down to the last detail.
Because each miniature modern chair is so true to the original, it is not only a valuable collector "item or decorative item, but also an ideal illustrative material for universities, colleges of design and architects.
The Vitra miniatures collection presents the most important classics of modern furniture history in miniature scale.
Le Corbusier referred to his LC2 as a "cushion basket," which he designed as a modernist response to the traditional club chair. This piece reverses the standard structures of chairs by having frames that are externalized. The idea was to offer all the comfort of a padded surface while applying the elegant minimalism and industrial rationale of the International Style.
