About Van Gogh Safe Box – Wheat Field with Cypress (1889)
This beautiful Enchanted Van Gogh safe box, displays on its back and front covers the Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh’s work “Wheat Field with Cypresses” made around late June of 1889, during the summer currently found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A later version of the same Wheat field landscape scene was made in September of the same year currently found at National Gallery in London. This book box includes a safe box on the inside and has a secret magnetic latch to hold it firmly closed. The exteriors are wrapped in a synthetic based leather and felt-lined inside to protect your treasures. When you hold one of these books boxes in your hands, your mind is automatically transported in time to the workshops of alchemists, dusty bookshelves of old monasteries, chambers of old castles, and libraries of Victorian England. These books boxes look great on library shelves (gorgeous spines), a living room coffee table, or as a general accent anywhere in your home.
Vincent Van Gogh’s early version of his work Wheat Field with Cypresses demonstrates his interest in capturing the beauty of the towering cypress trees found around the Saint-Rémy Asylum where he was interned after a self-mutilation episode, years prior to his death. Wheat Field with Cypresses also captures Van Gogh’s knowledge of the traditional Dutch artistic tradition of landscape painting, as well as the divisionist brushwork found in other post-impressionist artists, such as Georges Seurat and others. While evidencing the artistic influences the artist received, Wheat Field with Cypresses manifests the individual characteristic style of Van Gogh through the vibrancy in his color palette, and rapid-loose brushwork expressed in dashes of paint. The September of the Wheat Field with Cypresses work found at the National Gallery is of the same scale as that one produced earlier in June of 1889. However, Van Gogh later made another smaller version of the painting intended as a gift for his mother and sister.
