About Rodin and his Thinker
Rodin never wished to say anything in regards to what his Thinker was meditating, but rather how he was meditating. ‘My Thinker not only thinks with his brain, his frowned forehead, his wide open nostrils and tight lips; but with every muscle in his arms back and legs.’ The bronze statue, a standout amongst the most acclaimed works by Rodin, was initially part of The Gates Of Hell. Sitting in the Tympan, he supervises Hell, the judge over the population beneath him, he too is bolted up! The Thinker was the main figure by Rodin to be openly shown. It was raised before the Pantheon (Paris) amid a severe political and social situation in France on the 21st April 1906. Later it was transported to the Hotel Biron, the previous studio of the sculptor and the present Rodin Museum.
