About Raphael
When he was young, Raphael Santi (who was born in Urbino) became apprenticed to the renowned Perugino, who’s school emphasized calm, balanced compositions free of excess. Then, he moved to Florence, where Michelangelo and Da Vinci had created a vibrant artistic climate. Subsequently, he was called to Rome by Pope Julius II just like Michelangelo. He decorated the papal apartments. After a short, but very productive life, he died on his 37th birthday on Good Friday in 1520.
