About PO: Small Ring Thermo Mug Sonar
The pattern on this porcelain Ring Mug features minimalistic sound waves, inspired in the works of the 20th-century Dutch artist and theoretician, Piet Mondrian. Known as one of the pioneers of abstract art, Piet Mondrian is recognized as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Along with Theo van Doesburg, Mondrian cofounded the “De Stijl” movement, which revolved primarily around the idea of neoplasticism, a “new plastic art”, which would strife to represent universal beauty. In order to obtain this, Mondrian reduced his selection of colors to the primary colors (blue, yellow and red), his selection of values to the three primary values (black, grey and white), and to the three primary directional arrangements (diagonal, horizontal, and vertical). Influenced by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky’s ideas of theosophy, much of Mondrian’s later works reflect his interest in searching for spiritual knowledge and reducing aesthetic elements in his works of art to their essential manifestations. Mondrian’s quest to represent a universal and essential beauty later influenced the development of the 1960s American artistic movement, Minimalism.
