$300.00

Description

This Ottmar Horl Statue features the contemporary German artist‘s work “Worldview Model IB” made in 2006 and its now available in Gold and Silver exclusively at Musart Boutique! Is it possible that the artist’s worldview is different from that of our own? Are artists successful in depicting reality because “they see more” or do they “see more” because they have acquired the skill to do so? Ottmar Hörl raises important questions regarding perception through his Worldview sculptures such as: What are they seeing? How are they perceiving reality in this digital age of globalization? What do they consider important or insignificant? How far and how deep is their vision? Are they looking ahead into the future? Are they aware of the link between perception and ideology (worldview)? Are they just looking, or will they be taking action, too? The term “Weltanschauung” was first used by philosopher Immanuel Kant in Part I of his Critique of Judgment, published in 1790, in the context of his establishing aesthetics as a theory of taste. According to Kant, aesthetic pleasure in the beautiful and sublime results from balanced interaction between perception and knowledge, and the value of an aesthetic object is largely determined by the fact that it provides “unlimited potential for reflection”. In this sense, the object which is found aesthetically pleasing has the unlimited potential of reflecting the observer’s worldview. “Worldview” generally refers to the aesthetic and perceptive considerations involved in how one looks at the world. A “Worldview” is the way in which an individual sees his or her existence in the world. It provides a cultural orientation, while also implying the possibility for different views. On July 31st, 2017 Ottmar Hörl set an installation of his Weltanschauung Modell IB (Worldview Model IB) at the Blindeninstitut am Dachsberg (School for the blind on Dachsberg), which raises important issues on the subjective and individual experience of perception and its mechanisms. The same way, through which by closing our eyes, we cannot grasp the concept of being blind, Ottmar Hörl’s Worldviewers explore the limitations of our perception and understanding, when it comes to sensing the vast complexity of the world around us. HÖRL

Ottmar Hörl was born in 1950 in Nauheim, Germany. He is a notable German artist, art professor, and writer. Not only Hörl studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt (1975 / 1978), but also at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf (1978 / 1981). In 1985 he co-founded the group Fomalhaut, with architects Gabriela Seifert and Götz Stöckmann. In 1999, Hörl became Professor of Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. Eventually, he has been president of the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg since 2005. A mischievous artist, Hörl’s career has been predominantly about creating public commentary. He used his whimsical sculptures that have a friendly and teasing tone, especially with his gnomes. His work Flying Change staged in Selignstadt in 1994, for instance, placed a thousand blue garden gnomes, smiling and brandishing their middle fingers, all around the city. The intended effect was for the public to take them and move them around, which the townspeople gratefully did. Add a touch of “trendy activism” in your home or garden decor with Hörl’s gnome statues. They are suitable for inside and out and are all engraved with Sculptor signature as part as a Special Edition Collection.
