About Mondrian – PO Tea Tray Lattice
This dishwasher and food safe melamine Mondrian PO Tea Tray Lattice belongs to a collection of items inspired in the aesthetics of the Dutch-painter and co-founder of the “De Stijl” movement, Piet Mondrian, by the company PO. This elegant tea tray is also designed with a raised outer edge to facilitate carrying it. Piet Mondrian developed a unique set of aesthetic convictions aiming towards pure abstraction with the purpose of having his works serve as a universal pictorial language representing a truer depiction of reality than the traditional mimetic and illusionistic pictorial representations found throughout the history of art. Mondrian freed himself from the naturalistic representation of appearances through his aesthetic purity evidenced in the composition’s use of primary and secondary colors, the two primary directions (horizontal and vertical) in a lattice-like composition and the two primary values (white and black). De Stijl’s aesthetic aims departed away from classicism and pursued a quest for purity through a strong abstraction through an emphasis in geometry and was focused on what Mondrian called, Neo-Plasticism, or “The New Plastic Painting” which refers to a new emphasis on abstraction as the true realistic representation of nature in the plastic arts, like sculpture or painting. Mondrian’s quest for pure abstraction was inspired by Helena Blavatsky’s Theosophical movement which attempted to find the essential underlying commonalities between different belief systems in a quest to find the unifying essence of humankind’s spirituality and truth.
