About MoMA Jackson Pollock Coasters
This beautiful set of MoMA Jackson Pollock Coasters set of 4, features the American Abstract Expressionist artist’s characteristic drip painting. According to Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock’s radical drip paintings during the late 1940’s were the ones to break the ice in the New York art scene. His western identity as a cowboy from the West, made an impact in the circle of artists in New York when he first enrolled in 1932 at the Art Students League under the artist Thomas Benton. Pollock’s cowboy spirit, led him to rebel to the prevailing figurative art of the New York school during his time and evidenced his abstract style as a rebellion to the figurative patterns in Benton’s works. By the 1950’s Jackson Pollock became an international symbol for the emerging American school and the New York abstract expressionist movement. Although subsequent artists did not follow Pollock’s drip painting style, his artistic experimentation and push towards abstraction strongly impacted artists, thus making pollock one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Pollock Coasters feature in each individual item an iconic work of the artist, part of the Museum of Modern Art’s collection.
