Miró married Pilar Juncosa in Palma (Majorca) on 12 October 1929. In 1939, with Germany “invasion of France looming, Miró relocated to Varengeville in Normandy. At that time, Miró had begun the works as a kind of personal defense against what he knew to be the horrors to come. The series of paintings dwelt on his profound internal sense of connections between things, an entirely singular private universe that he called the Constellations. When he eventually fled with his wife and daughter on the last train out of Paris for Spain, the paintings were rolled under his arm.
Miró was a Spanish painter that combined abstract art with Surrealist fantasy to create his lithographs, murals, tapestries, and sculptures. His mature style evolved from the tension between his fanciful, poetic impulse and his vision of the harshness of modern life.
In spite of his fame, Miró, an introvert, continued to devote himself exclusively to looking and creating.
