About Michelangelo Skateboard Triptych – Creation of Adam (1511-1512) | Musart on Decks
Part of Musart Boutique’s original collection Musart on Decks comes this exclusive limited edition of 100 Michelangelo Skateboard Triptych featuring one of the Italian High-Renaissance Cinquecento artist’s most notorious work the Creation of Adam Panel, found on the Sistine Chapel Ceiling Fresco (1511-1512). One of the two central panels of the Sistine Chapel ceiling fresco, The Creation of Adam , represents the moment when God and Adam confront each other in a primordial unformed landscape of which Adam is still a material part, heavy as earth. The Lord transcends the earth, wrapped in a billowing cloud of drapery and borne up by His powers. Representing the Old Testament biblical passage in Genesis 1:26 (NIV, Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”), Michelangelo depicts the moment where life leaps to Adam like a spark from the extended and mighty hand of God. As God reaches out to Adam, the viewer’s eye travels from right to left, but Adam’s extended left arm leads the eye back to the right, along with the Lord’s arm, shoulders and left arm to his left forefinger, which points to the Christ Child’s face. Through this compositional arrangement, Michelangelo vividly exemplifies the Christian doctrinal parallel between Adam, the first man, and cause of the fall of humanity, and the subsequent redemption from sin through the sacrifice of Christ referred in Scripture as “The New Adam.” Bringing together tradition and contemporary culture, Musart Boutique is proud to present our exclusive original collection Musart on Decks featuring limited edition skateboard decks, displaying art historical timeless masterpieces which bridge the traditional history of art and contemporary skateboarding culture at accessible prices.

About Michelangelo Buonarroti
Although Michelangelo is most famous today as the painter of the Sistine Chapel frescoes, he was also an architect, poet, engineer, and most importantly, a sculptor. Michelangelo considered sculpture superior to painting because the sculptor shares the divine power to “make man” as a parallel to God creating humanity in the beginning. One of Michelangelo’s best-known observations about sculpture is that the artist must proceed by finding the idea–the image locked in the stone. By removing the excess stone, the sculptor extricates the idea from the block, bringing forth the living form. Michelangelo is known for arguing throughout his career that the artist must not be bound, except by the demands made by realizing the idea. This assertion of the artist’s authority was typical of Michelangelo and anticipated the modern concept of the right to a self-expression of talent limited only by the artist’s own judgment. In this context, Michelangelo is influential in how his works created in architecture, sculpture, and painting departed from High Renaissance regularity.
