Description

About the Moogritte Cow" from the cow figurines

The Artist Stan Chrzanowski created the original MOOgritte Cow in honor of his favorite artists - René Magritte. The apple on Moogritte "nose is based on Magritte ""The Son of Man" painting(1964). The painting consists of a man in an overcoat and a bowler hat standing in front of a low wall, beyond which is the sea and a cloudy sky. The man "face is largely obscured by a hovering green apple. However, the man "eyes can be seen peeking over the edge of the apple. The clouds, derby hat and umbrella reflect some of the other elements often seen in his work. The bovine sculpture is part of the CowParade Museum Edition cow figurines. As all cow figurines, it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and a soft dust bag.

CowParade Kansas City was designed to promote the arts and benefited to youth programs put on by The American Royal, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and The Kansas City Zoo. The public art event featured life-size fiberglass cows painted and decorated by area artists. In fact, CowParade Kansas City consisted of about 300 of these cow sculptures. It is interesting to remember that Hallmark Cards Inc. sponsored a herd of 10 cows in the summer's CowParade Kansas City. Members of Hallmark's creative staff and children attending Hallmark's Kaleidoscope in Crown Center decorated ten fiberglass cows. After a 15-week public display on the streets and in parks, many of the cows went to auction sales. For the very first time in CowParade history, Kansas City hosted a live auction of approximately 60 cows on October 5, 2001, followed by an online auction organized by Amazon.com.  Nowadays, some pieces are part of the Cowparade Museum Edition selection of cow figurines and collectibles.

    Magritte

René Magritte was one of the most famous surrealist painters of all time. His ability to challenge perception inspired many artists to come, such as Andy Warhol, Jan Verdoodt and Jasper Johns. Furthermore, his idiosyncratic vision of Surrealism has won over the hearts and minds of millions. He worked across various media including painting, printmaking, sculpting, photography, and film. His depiction of normal, everyday objects rearranged in an unusual way allowed his viewers to take a deeper look at what was in front of them and realize what the image truly represented. One of his most well-known pieces, The Treachery of Images exemplifies his ability to give new meanings to objects. It is an image of a pipe, and beneath it, a message that reads, “Ceci n’est pas une pipe” (“This is not a pipe”). This ability to make the mundane strange and the known unknown has solidified Magritte’s talents in the art world. Eventually, it has profoundly affected the Conceptualist and Pop Art movements, to this very day.
