About Klimt Latte glass – The Kiss (1908)
This high-end latte glass is part of our Gustav Klimt collection. Celebrating the legacy of the Austrian Vienna Secessionist artist Gustav Klimt, the German company Goebel dedicated to producing luxury glass and porcelain objects since its founding in 1880, produced this elegant coffee latte glass set including a porcelain plate and a spoon representing Klimt’s masterpiece
“The Kiss” (1908). Gustav Klimt’s work “The Kiss” depicts the intimate embrace of a kneeling woman and a man standing, against a lavish gold leaf background and ornamented in Gustav Klimt’s organic art nouveau forms. The linear and strong dark ornamentation in the man’s clothing, strongly distinguish it from the delicate, floral like ornamentation on the kneeling woman’s clothing. Klimt’s use of gold leaf gilding in his works created during his “golden period” alludes to a revival of the symbolic use of gold in Byzantine religious artworks.
