About Basquiat Notecard Box – Bird on Money (1981)

This notecard set includes 20 notecards (displaying 4 Jean-Michel artworks), 20 envelopes and a reusable box with a magnetic closure ideal for keepsakes. These best-selling Basquiat Notecard Box includes notecards that are ideal to convey personal greetings, thank yous, or invitations in a colorful and artistic way. Like Andy Warhol and other Pop Artists, Basquiat eloquently critiqued the elitist pedestal of art through his popular culture references and immediately recognizable imagery. Basquiat also presented challenges to the institution of Art, along with the graffiti artist Keith Haring, who both served as intermediary artists attempting to bridge the academically-trained artistic production with that of the intuitive and non-traditional graffiti art. Bird on Money is an excellent example of Basquiat art in which the street art legend paid tribute to one of his heroes, jazz musician Charlie Parker. The beautiful loose style portrays Charlie Parker as a yardbird or chicken, a nickname that Parker was commonly known as, while the words Para Morir translate as ‘To Die’. Green Wood is painted above a cemetery, the area that Jean-Michel Basquiat was born and the cemetery in which he was later laid to rest. It is also thought Basquiat was trying to achieve a jazz like arrangement of his imagery in this painting. More details on Jean-Michel Basquiat Notecard Box Bird on Money (1981):
