About the artist
Edgar Degas worked in the period of Impressionism. He used many different mediums such as oil, chalk, pastel, pencil, etching, and sculpture. In his paintings, Degas captured unique angles of the dancers and cropped it in ways that were new to the art world in the time of Impressionism. He also liked to paint dancers off stage, proving the strength and determination needed to be a ballerina. People call me the painter of dancing girls,” Degas said, It has never occurred to them that my chief interest in dancers lies in rendering movement and painting pretty clothes. Our coffee cup and platter are a perfect representation of Degas art.
