About Jean-Michel Basquiat Small Plate - Limoges Porcelain - All Colored Cast I (1982)

This Limoges porcelain Basquiat small plate by the Limoges-Based company Ligne Blanche features the New York School influential graffiti artist's work "All Colored Cast I" (1982). The original painting is an acrylic, oil stick, and paper collage with metal hinges on a cotton drop cloth. This top quality porcelain small plate features a painting by one of the most revolutionary underground New Yorker artists of the 1980s. The patterns illustrated on the original painting (colorful, powerful figures in comic-grotesque, conceptual words, creatures, as well as voodoo) are typical of the wild and original world of the artist. The strength of Basquiat was in his ability to fuse images from the streets, newspapers and TV with the spiritual heritage of his Haitian by injecting both in an intuitive understanding of the language of painting," said Jeffrey Deitch, the new director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles. Basquiat "art style was focused on themes such as wealth versus poverty, integration versus segregation, and inner versus outer experience. He was mostly known for his unique combinations of text and images. His pieces were strongly political and direct in their address of power structure and systems of racism. Basquiat

    Basquiat

Jean-Michel Basquiat is one of the best known artists of his generation and is widely considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century. His career in art spanned the late 1970s through the 1980s until his death in 1988, at the age of 27. Basquiat works are edgy and raw, and through a bold sense of color and composition, he maintains a fine balance between seemingly contradictory forces such as control and spontaneity, menace and wit, urban imagery and primitivism. The Basquiat brand embodies the values and aspirations of young, international urban culture.
The conjunction of various media is an integral element of Basquiat's art. His paintings are typically covered with text and codes of all kinds: words, letters, numerals, pictograms, logos, map symbols, diagrams and more, and featured multi-panel paintings and individual canvases with exposed stretcher bars, the surface dense with writing, collage and imagery.
